Service Description
Metamorphous is unlike any social skills life group designed for ages 13-17 years old. Integrated in the Metamorphous social skills life groups are proven theories from years of research from the Science of Adolescent Learning (SAL). Metamorphous is an intentionally designed program with the premise that adolescents are fully capable to engage and manage personal outcomes by supporting adolescent needs. Focused topics include: Social Adaptation, Responsibility for Self-Esteem, Managing Anxiety and Complex Emotions, Anger without Aggression, APA: Assertive-Passive-Aggressive, Building Healthy Relationships, Settling Disputes, Problem Solving Metamorphous fosters and supports the following adolescent needs: 1. The role of peer and adult relationships shifts during adolescence. Peers become increasingly important as they influence the reward systems within the adolescent brain. Meanwhile, adult roles must shift from seeking to meet the needs of adolescents to supporting adolescents in meeting their own needs. 2. Adolescent rewards related to social evaluation, which include feelings of belonging, acceptance, admiration, and respect, particularly from their peers is essential to experiencing real internal growth. 3. Adolescents are more able to take risks, either positive or negative, when they are aware of the presence of peers. Adolescents are deeply supported by an internal tribal need for acceptance. 4. Adolescents are more motivated to engage in activities or behaviors that reflect the shared values and interests of their peers. *For more information about SAL. https://all4ed.org/science-of-adolescent-learning/ **Students need to be able to self maintain and have a desire to participate for the good of the group.
